I have a real passion for Silver Surfer! The silvery herald of Galactus, born to roam free in the infinite space and banished to Earth for his selflessness and rebellion to his creator, has always exerted a unique charm on me. Powerful, elegant, mournful: this anomalous superhero embodies the purity of the noblest soul, a sense of justice and mercy that knows no bounds and he expresses in all his adventures through a disarming humanity. Because of this passion, my collection counts for many statues devoted to the character and the 1:6 scale piece produced by the American Company Hard Hero simply represents, in my humble opinion, a top-quality collectible. Released in 2005 with an edition size limited to 500 samples (plus a special run of 100 Artist Proofs), the statue was sculpted by Seth Vandable and depicts the hero in a dynamic pose. Silver Surfer, in fact, is just crouched on his surfboard with both legs bent and arms open, the bust slightly rotated and a rather circumspect attitude, ready to strike with his incredible cosmic power, if necessary. The sculpt is excellent: the physique is very elegant and powerful, with two wide shoulders, well defined pectorals and abdominals and bumped biceps and quadriceps. The silver color used on body and surfboard is so bright to reflect the light, though it lacks the typical (and somehow stilted) mirror-effect of the chrome paint, thus offering a fine chromatic contrast with the dominant black color of the base. This last one is fully located at one side of the figure, thus being (from a visual point of view) not invasive at all: it shows an igneous rock with a very irregular shape and is equipped, here and there, with just sketched orange-red patches, which reveal the still incandescent nature of the magma. The face of the character is very expressive and exhibits an impressive similarity with the the somatic traits of the old artworks of John Buscema, with very well sculpted nose and mouth, a lean contour at cheeks and the typical black border around the white eyes. The availability of this Hard Hero's statue on market is rather poor and the quotations, in general, are quite high. In my opinion, a top-notch collectible and a beautiful representation of this spectacular hero.
